I bought this heart shaped ceramic button six years ago at the V&A shop. It has been patiently tucked away inside my sewing box waiting for the right moment to emerge. Today was the day.

Like a duckling leaving its nest for the first time, I felt courageous enough to venture out of my territory and purchase an unknown dress pattern. I have followed the same t-shirt dress pattern since January, so it was about time to try something new. I've been searching high and low for a pattern of a minimalist dress with a racerback and preferably trapeze shaped. I finally found what I was looking for on Etsy from Cali Faye Collection a shop that sells downloadable patterns.

Would you believe it's a kid's pattern? This was my first sewing hack. I simply printed it to a bigger size on my printer. I'm a UK size 6, so scaling it to 110% did the trick. It was a bit of a gamble but it paid off, as the dress fits me like a glove. And look check out the pretty racer back detail! I think this cut on a patterned and graphic Liberty fabric will be nice for a wedding I'm going to this June.
