PAINTING IN KEW GARDENS

Sunday morning was spent location drawing in Kew Gardens with fellow illustrators Lorna Scobie and Emma Block. The three of us arranged to meet in the tropical warm Palm House for a painting session and illustration catch up. Equipped with colouring pencils, paint brushes, watercolours, packed lunches, digestive cookies and freshly brewed coffee, we were ready to get started.

Kew is an ideal place for location drawing in the winter. There are benches conveniently scattered around the botanical park, and if your fingers are starting to numb from the cold air, you can seek refuge in one the glass houses.

This watercolour was painted in Princes of Wales Conservatory. Did you know that there is even a piranha tank inside?
If you wish to study leaf patterns, shapes and colours and how seasons change, Kew is the perfect destination for this. Bring an illustrator friend or two and you also get to have a good catch-up.
